#20 Softball Sweeps NJAC Doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden

UNION, N.J. (4/17/21) – Skylar Hengeveld went 2-for-4 with a homerun, a run batted in, a run scored and a double as the #20 Kean University softball team swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.

Kean 1, Rutgers-Camden 0
Jenn Majorczak finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, while both Hengeveld and Nicole Vassallo went 1-for-2 as a single run helped propel the Cougars (15-2, 5-2 NJAC) past the Scarlet Raptors (5-6, 5-4 NJAC) in the opener.

Kean and Camden each recorded three hits apiece, but the Cougars managed to get the winning run across the dish in the fourth. Majorczak hit an RBI single to right center, which allowed Julie Raba to score from second. Raba walked to get on base, before moving to second during a groundout by Maddie Carlson.

Taryn DiGiacomo struck out seven batters in the complete game victory.

Kean 2, Rutgers-Camden 1
Hengeveld went 1-for-2 with a homerun, an RBI and a run scored, while Julie Stasil and Maria Bonfanti both finished 1-for-2 as the Cougars (16-2, 6-2 NJAC) battled back from a 1-0 deficit to sweep the Scarlet Raptors (5-7, 5-5 NJAC) in the nightcap.

Kean trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the second after Camden recorded their first run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to right field. The Cougars responded in the second with a solo homerun to right field by Hengeveld that knotted everything up at 1-1.

Kean would score the go-ahead run in the next inning as Stasil tripled to lead things off and then scored on the throw after Bonfanti was caught stealing.

Heather Clevenger improved to 5-1 in the circle with the complete game victory.

After today's sweep, Head Coach Margie Acker sits at 499 career wins and will look for #500 tomorrow in South Jersey.

Coach Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Glassboro, N.J tomorrow, Sun. Apr. 18th, against the Profs of Rowan University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
