GALLOWAY, N.J. (4/27/21) – Julie Raba finished 4-for-6 with two RBI's and two runs scored as the Kean University softball team swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader with Stockton University on Tuesday afternoon.
Kean 6, Stockton 1
Maddie Carlson went 3-for-4 with three RBI's, while Raba finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as the Cougars (18-7, 8-7 NJAC) notched six runs on seven hits in the game one victory.
The Ospreys (6-15, 6-11 NJAC) were held to just one run on four hits, while Kean tallied five runs over the first 5 ½ innings.
Gabriella Fredette gave the Cougars an early advantage with an RBI single in the first. Carlson accounted for the next three runs with an RBI single in the third and an RBI single in the fifth. Raba added onto the run total in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle to propel the Cougars to a 6-0 advantage.
Stockton finally got on the scoreboard with a solo homerun to left in the sixth.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI groundout that drove in Fredette.
Taryn DiGiacomo fanned five batters in the complete game victory.
Kean 2, Stockton 1
Raba finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Fredette and
Gianna Pickens both went 2-for-3 as the Cougars' (19-7, 9-7 NJAC) early runs were just enough in the game two victory.
The Ospreys (6-16, 6-12 NJAC) notched one run on three hits, while Kean did all their damage offensively in the first inning.
The Cougars tallied two runs in the first as Raba hit an RBI single to center that scored
Paige Metz and then eventually crossed the dish during Carlson's groundout. A sacrifice fly in the third gave Stockton their only run of the game.
The final four innings were a pitcher's duel with no runs and a combined four hits.
Heather Clevenger improved to 7-2 in the circle with three strikeouts in the complete game victory.
