Union, N.J. (3/19/25) – The Kean University softball team split with DeSales University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Game One – DeSales 12, Kean 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs raced out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. With two outs in the second, DeSales worked back-to-back walks and a single to load the bases. Kiara Castera then drove in two with a single up the middle. DU then walked again to lead the bases and added another on a fielding miscue. A bases loaded hit-by-pitch made it 4-0 and the Bulldogs rounded out the scoring on a wild pitch.
DeSales added three more in the fifth to take an 8-0 lead before the Cougars answered in the bottom of the same inning. Samantha Raymond homered to lead off the inning.
The Bulldogs then put the game out of reach in the seventh with four more runs on five hits.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Raymond was 2-for-3 with two homeruns and three RBI.
Castera was 4-for-4 with four RBI for DeSales.
Game Two – Kean 5, DeSales 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean (9-11) used a balanced scoring attack to pull out a split. Andee Perseponko delivered an RBI single in the first while Nikki Lusnia added an RBI single in the second.
Kylie Petak made it 4-0 in the third with her first homer of the season, a two run shot. Petak added another RBI in the fifth with a sac fly.
DeSales erased the shutout in the seventh on a two run homer, but the Cougars were able to work out of trouble to preserve the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Lusnia (7-7) tossed a complete game and allowed seven hits. She struck out eight and walked no one.

Kean travels to Drew University next Tuesday.
